Zoe Rahman
Zoe Rahman is an acclaimed British jazz pianist and composer known for her vibrant, multifaceted style and innovative musical expressions. Born on January 20, 1971, in Chichester, England, to a Bengali father and English mother, Rahman's bicultural heritage significantly influences her music. She studied classical piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London and later earned a degree in music from St Hugh's College, Oxford. Her explorations in jazz deepened through studies in the U.S. at the Berklee College of Music, where she honed her improvisational skills. Rahman’s debut album, "The Cynic," was released in 2001, garnering critical acclaim. However, it was her second album, "Melting Pot" (2006), that gained broader recognition, earning her a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. Known for integrating traditional Bengali music with contemporary jazz, Rahman's works reflect a diverse array of influences, including classical music, jazz, and world music. She has collaborated with an array of notable musicians and has been celebrated with several awards, including the 2012 MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act.
