Villagers
Villagers is the musical project fronted by Irish singer-songwriter Conor O'Brien, formed in 2008. Known for its introspective lyrics and evocative soundscapes, Villagers quickly gained attention with its debut album "Becoming a Jackal," released in 2010. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize and established O'Brien as a distinctive voice in the indie folk scene. O'Brien, a multi-instrumentalist, is the creative force behind Villagers, responsible for the composition, lyrics, and often the production of the band's music. The project’s sound ranges from delicate acoustic arrangements to lush, orchestrated explorations, often blending folk traditions with modern sensibilities. Following their debut, Villagers released several critically acclaimed albums, including "{Awayland}" in 2013, "Darling Arithmetic" in 2015, and "The Art of Pretending to Swim" in 2018. Each release showcases O'Brien's evolving musical craftsmanship and profound lyrical content, often exploring themes of identity, love, and existential reflection. Villagers has toured extensively, captivating audiences with their intimate and powerful live performances. Over the years, the band has continued to refine its sound, solidifying its place as a seminal act in contemporary folk and indie music.
