The xx

The xx is an English indie pop band formed in 2005 in Wandsworth, London. The band originally consisted of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Baria Qureshi, and Jamie Smith, also known as Jamie xx. Their debut album, "xx," released in 2009, gained international acclaim for its minimalist sound, a blend of indie pop, electronic, and R&B influences. The album's introspective lyrics, combined with the band's distinctive blend of sparse arrangements and ethereal vocals, helped them win the Mercury Prize in 2010. Following Qureshi's departure in 2009, The xx continued as a trio. In 2012, they released their sophomore album, "Coexist," which further cemented their reputation for creating hauntingly intimate music. Known for their ability to craft emotionally resonant songs, The xx has influenced numerous artists with their innovative sound. Their third album, "I See You," was released in 2017 and showcased a more expansive and adventurous approach while retaining their characteristic emotive core. Outside of The xx, Jamie xx has pursued a successful solo career, further enhancing the band's influence in the music world.
