The Delgados

The Delgados were a Scottish indie rock band formed in 1994 in Glasgow. The founding members included Alun Woodward, Emma Pollock, Paul Savage, and Stewart Henderson, who had all previously been part of the band Bubblegum. Known for their melodic sound and introspective lyrics, The Delgados quickly became a notable name within the UK's independent music scene. Their debut album, "Domestiques," was released in 1996, showcasing their unique blend of guitar-driven melodies and orchestral arrangements. The band founded their own record label, Chemikal Underground, which became a cornerstone of indie music in Scotland, helping to launch the careers of other influential acts, such as Mogwai and Arab Strap. The Delgados gained critical acclaim for albums like "The Great Eastern" (2000) and "Hate" (2002), both of which demonstrated their growth towards a more expansive and sophisticated sound. Despite their success and loyal fanbase, the band decided to split amicably in 2005, citing a desire to explore other creative ventures. The members have since pursued various individual projects, leaving a lasting legacy within indie rock for their innovative contributions and pioneering spirit.
