Simply Red

Simply Red is a British soul and pop band formed in 1985 in Manchester, England. The band's frontman and core creative force is Mick Hucknall, known for his distinctive voice and striking red hair, which inspired the band's name. Simply Red quickly rose to prominence with their debut album, "Picture Book," which was released in 1985 and featured the international hit single "Holding Back the Years." Their music, characterized by a blend of soul, pop, and new wave influences, resonated with a broad audience. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Simply Red enjoyed significant success with multiple chart-topping albums and singles, including "Stars," "If You Don't Know Me by Now," and "Something Got Me Started." The album "Stars," released in 1991, became one of the best-selling albums in the UK. Despite line-up changes over the years, Mick Hucknall remained the constant driving force behind the band's music and success. After a brief disbandment in 2010, Simply Red reunited in 2015, embarking on tours and continuing to release new music. The band's enduring appeal lies in their blend of emotive songwriting and Hucknall's distinctive vocal delivery, securing their place in the pantheon of classic British pop and soul music.
