Propellerheads
Propellerheads are an electronic music duo from Bath, England, consisting of members Will White and Alex Gifford. Formed in 1995, the duo gained prominence in the late 1990s, carving a niche within the big beat genre, which was popularized by acts like The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. Their music is characterized by the innovative fusion of breakbeat rhythms with elements from various genres, including jazz, funk, and hip-hop. The Propellerheads gained significant attention with their debut album, "Decksandrumsandrockandroll," released in 1998. The album featured hit tracks like "History Repeating," which included vocals by the legendary Shirley Bassey, and "Take California," used prominently in commercials and films. Their music was also featured in high-profile movie soundtracks, including "The Matrix" and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me." Despite their early successes, the Propellerheads' activity has been sporadic, with White and Gifford pursuing individual projects outside the band. Nevertheless, their contributions to the electronic and big beat scenes ensure their legacy endures among enthusiasts of the genre.
