Polar Bear
Polar Bear is a British jazz band formed in 2004, renowned for their innovative approach to jazz and fusion of various genres. Led by drummer and composer Seb Rochford, the ensemble is known for its experimental soundscapes that blend elements of electronic music, punk, and traditional jazz. The original lineup includes Pete Wareham on tenor saxophone, Mark Lockheart on tenor saxophone, Tom Herbert on double bass, and Leafcutter John on electronics and guitar. The band gained recognition with their self-titled debut album, "Dim Lit," released in 2004, which set the stage for their signature style of sophisticated yet accessible jazz improvisations. They reached a wider audience with their critically acclaimed second album, "Held on the Tips of Fingers" (2005), earning a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize. Throughout their career, Polar Bear continued to push the boundaries of jazz with albums such as "Peepers" (2010) and "In Each and Every One" (2014). The group's music is characterized by intricate rhythms, dynamic saxophone interplay, and innovative electronic textures.
