Nitin Sawhney
Nitin Sawhney is a British-Indian musician, composer, and producer known for his eclectic blend of electronica, jazz, world music, and classical elements. Born on May 12, 1964, in London, Sawhney grew up in Rochester, Kent. He began his musical journey playing piano and guitar, eventually immersing himself in a diverse range of musical traditions. Sawhney's early career included a stint with the comedy group The Secret Asians alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar, before he focused on music full-time. His debut album, "Spirit Dance," released in 1994, showcased his ability to weave different genres into a cohesive sound. However, it was his 1999 album "Beyond Skin" that brought international acclaim, addressing themes of identity and cultural conflict, and earning him a Mercury Prize nomination.
