Lemon Jelly
Lemon Jelly is a British electronic music duo formed in 1998 by Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen. Deakin, a DJ and graphic designer, and Franglen, a studio programmer and musician, originally crossed paths in the late '80s but didn't collaborate musically until a decade later. Known for their distinctive blend of downtempo, trip-hop, and chillout music, Lemon Jelly's sound is characterized by smooth beats, whimsical melodies, and innovative sampling techniques. The duo gained early attention with their self-released EPs, which were later compiled into the album "Lemonjelly.ky" in 2000. This release, and their subsequent album "Lost Horizons" in 2002, established them as leading figures in the electronic music scene. "Lost Horizons" even received a Mercury Prize nomination. Their music often explores playful themes and incorporates diverse audio sources, from old radio recordings to film dialogue. In addition to their audio work, Lemon Jelly is noted for their visually striking album artwork and live performances, often designed by Deakin himself. Although the duo has been on hiatus since 2008, their innovative approach and distinctive sound continue to influence the genre.
