Lankum
Lankum is an Irish folk band known for their innovative approach to traditional music. Formed in Dublin, the band comprises Ian and Daragh Lynch, Cormac MacDiarmada, and Radie Peat. Initially performing under the name Lynched, they changed their name to Lankum in 2016, a nod to the traditional folk ballad "False Lankum." Their music blends Irish traditional songs with influences from punk, psychedelia, and drone, creating a distinctive sound that both honors and reinvents folk traditions. Lankum's use of harmonium, uileann pipes, concertina, and fiddle adds rich, textured layers to their music, capturing dark and raw emotions. Lankum gained widespread acclaim with their 2017 album, "Between the Earth and Sky," which showcased their ability to transform age-old folk music into something visceral and immediate. They further cemented their reputation with the 2019 album "The Livelong Day," which won the RTE Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year. Praised for their haunting harmonies and soulful performances, Lankum continues to push the boundaries of folk music while remaining deeply rooted in the traditions of their Irish heritage.
