FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett on January 16, 1988, in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, is a celebrated singer, songwriter, and dancer known for her ethereal sound and innovative artistry. With a background in dance, she initially moved to London at 17 to pursue a career as a dancer, appearing in music videos for artists like Jessie J and Kylie Minogue. In 2012, Barnett adopted the moniker FKA Twigs, with "FKA" meaning "formerly known as," due to the existing use of the name Twigs by another artist. She self-released her debut extended play, "EP1," and quickly gained attention for her distinctive blend of electronic, R&B, trip-hop, and avant-garde styles. Her debut studio album, "LP1," released in 2014, was met with critical acclaim, praised for its experimental approach and Barnett's haunting vocals. FKA Twigs' work often explores themes of identity, sexuality, and empowerment, supported by visually arresting music videos and performances. Her subsequent releases, including "M3LL155X" (2015) and "Magdalene" (2019), solidified her as a boundary-pushing artist, known for her innovative artistry and emotional depth.
