Elastica

Elastica was a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1992, best known for their energetic indie rock sound and catchy hooks. The band was led by Justine Frischmann, former member of Suede, alongside guitarist Donna Matthews, bassist Annie Holland, and drummer Justin Welch. Elastica quickly gained attention in the Britpop scene with their punk-influenced style and sharp lyrics. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1995, was a major success. It hit number one on the UK Albums Chart and included hit singles like "Connection" and "Waking Up." The album's sound was characterized by concise, punchy tracks that drew comparisons to bands like Wire and The Stranglers, leading to some legal disputes over similarities, which were eventually settled out of court. Despite their initial success, Elastica faced challenges with internal tensions and pressures from the intense media spotlight. After a lengthy break and several lineup changes, they released their second album, "The Menace," in 2000, which received a more mixed reception. The band disbanded in 2001. Elastica remains an influential band from the Britpop era, remembered for their distinct sound and early successes.
