Black Midi
Black Midi is an experimental rock band from London, formed in 2017 by Geordie Greep (vocals, guitar), Cameron Picton (bass, vocals), and Morgan Simpson (drums). The group's name is derived from a music genre characterized by compositions using MIDI files with an extremely high number of notes. Renowned for their complex compositions and eclectic sound, Black Midi quickly gained attention within the underground music scene. They debuted with a single "bmbmbm" in 2018, gaining further momentum after a high-energy performance at KEXP radio in Seattle. Their debut album, "Schlagenheim," was released in 2019 to critical acclaim, showcasing their fusion of math rock, post-punk, and avant-prog influences. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize, solidifying their reputation as innovators in modern rock. In 2021, Black Midi released their second album, "Cavalcade," which further expanded their experimental sound palette. The band's third album, "Hellfire," released in 2022, continued to push boundaries, blending elements of jazz, noise, and rock. Known for their dynamic live performances, Black Midi has cultivated a devoted following, representing a bold and unpredictable force in contemporary music.
